Xiao Fei Yang (Penang) Steamboat Restaurant 小肥羊 (槟城)火锅城

Opened since year 2013 at the busy road of Tanjung Tokong, I am sure it is very noticeable to many of you especially if you stay around that area.      Plus it is just situated at the same stretch as Starbucks Drive Thru.
Thanks to Xiao Fei Yang (Penang) Steamboat Restaurant  for hosting us throughout the evening.
Specializing in hotpot, Xiao Fei Yang (XFY) offers two types of soup, one non-spicy and one spicy soup base which aroma will entice you once you step into their restaurant.
Herbal Soup and Hot & Spicy Soup
Their Herbal Soup (RM26++)  are  packed  with  assorted  herbs and thus giving out natural herby flavours which  makes  it tasty to be drank  on  its  own  even  before  dumping  in any ingredients as flavours booster.  Personally find their Hot and Spicy Soup (RM28++) do not really live up to its name due to its initial  subtle flavour till we continue  savouring  it towards the end.    Lucky  thing  we  were  served   with   Chinese tea  to  water down  the   numbing sensation    caused    by   the  bursting  flavours  upon  swallowing.     Most of us were more impressed with their Herbal Soup if you must know.    Combination soup   is  also available at RM27++.

1. HK Mushroom Pork Ball (RM10++) 2. HK Crab Ball (RM10++) 3. Gluten (RM4++)
 4. Fresh Scallops (RM28++) 5. Golden Mushrooms (RM4++) 6. Sliced Fish (RM12++)
Assorted Vegetables
Chinese Dumplings (RM6++)
Dumplings is one of  the must-try order since they goes well with both soup bases.

1. Fried Fish Head (RM22++) 2. Deep Fried Patin Fish Skin (RM10++) 3. Fried Golden Dumpling (RM8++)
Aside from ingredients to dump into the flavourful soup, XFY also have various snacks for customers to opt from just in case hotpot is not enough to fill up your tummy's room.  Do give their crispy  Deep Fried Patin Fish Skin a try since it is rarely seen at other restaurants.  If you are a fan of the deep fried chicken skin which is one of our local famous streetfood, I can guarantee your love for this particular side order.  Do take note that those who dislike fishy taste may not favour this.
Cold Beancurd (RM4.50++)
Unlike fishballs, meatballs and packet tofu that are the usual ingredients seen whenever there is hotpot, XFY's cold beancurd is something that you could give a try since it is not a very common ingredient at other steamboat outlets or at least those I have visited before.  I like to soak them a little longer after cooking it to allow all the soup to seep into the  absorbent beancurd.

Last but not least, sliced meats are the ultimate must have ingredients whenever it comes to hotpot and of course it is something that I will never miss having.
1. Sliced Pork Neck (RM17++) 2. Sliced Beef Ribeye (RM18++)  3. Sliced Pork (RM10++) 4. Sliced Mutton (RM19++)
Picked your meat with your chopsticks and simply rinse it in the soup for a few times and then dipped it into your sauce is the best way to enjoy your meat at its optimum.
We were suggested by the restaurant operator to mix this three signature sauce according to your desired ratio.

Besides serving hotpots, XFY is coming out with their customizable noodles series to cater for busy people from 12pm to 5pm.  Prices of the noodles is without the range of RM8.90++ - RM14.90++ and may vary depends on your main ingredient selection.

Pork Ribs Handmade Noodles
Although the ingredients used in the soup based are the same as the ones being used for the hotpot.  The taste in their noodles bowl seem to be milder but then definitely palatable and perfect to provide comfort for the tummy instantaneously.
Before ending this review, here is some extra information that you guys should be aware of.  RM 1 will be charged for every set of sterilized tableware.  XFY is taking their cleanliness to a whole new level by outsourcing such service to Meijier company.

Invited Review

Here comes the annual Bulan Puasa Ramadhan again which is the time our fellow Muslim devotees will commit their fasting.    In conjunction of the holy month, Vistana will be offering a very competitive price for their Ramadhan theme "Tok Wan 101 Recipes" buffet.

Thanks to Vistana Hotel Penang for hosting us for the evening
 Without further ado,  below are the pictures to tickle your taste buds.   I guarantee you guys will be spoilt for choices available at Vistana's Ramadhan Buffet Line.

Please take note that I will not review every single dish due to the abundance of food available but then I will bold the ones that are worth going for.

For those who loves their vegetables fresh, here are variety of ulam for you to opt for and go with  dressings  of  your  selection.    My  personal  favourite  dressing  would  always be the Sambal Belacan but it's good to try something out of the ordinary at times like  the  authentic Malay Sambal Kicap Limau Kasturi, Budu & Cincaluk.
Ulam-Ulaman Tempatan (Local Salad)
 Ulam Raja, Ulam Pegaga, Daun Selon, Timun, Kacang Panjang, Kacang Botol, Petai, Tomato, Bendi, Kobis, Jantung Pisang, Daun Kaduk with different dressing such as Sambal Belacan Asli, Sambal Kicap Limau Kasturi, Budu & Cincaluk.

Aside from having ulam, there also have vibrant colours of appetising kerabu to give your meal a refreshing start.
Pembuka Selera (Appetizer)
Kerabu Ulam, Kerabu Mangga, Acar Jelatah, Tempe Ikan Bilis, Kerabu Sotong, Kerabu Ayam, Kerabu Taugeh, Kerabu Sayur, Kerabu Ikan Masin, Tauhu Sumbat dan Kuah Kacang, Telur Masin & Ikan Masin Goreng.

Who else loves Papadum?  Make sure you help yourself with extra pieces of their crispy Papadum.
Keropok (Crackers)
 Keropok Ikan, Keropok Udang & Papadum.
Rojak Buah
 Mangga Muda, Betik Muda, Jambu Air, Jambu Batu, Sengkuang, Timun, Belimbing, Nenas with Kuah Rojak, Kacang Tumbuk & Biji Bijian.

Some live performance by the uncle from the Murtabak stall.
Their Assam Laksa is something that should not be missed as it is one of their signature dish.
Not to neglect their Sup Daging Periuk Besar which were simmered to its optimum which allows the robust flavours and spices to tantalize your tastebuds.  Definitely a must have!
Warung-warung (Stalls)
 Pasembur Campuran (Ubi Kentang, Telur, Timun, Sengkuang, Taugeh, Kek Ikan, Sosej, Tauhu & Cucur Udang), Kerang Kukus, Murtabak (Murtabak Ayam, Sambal Bawang, Dalcha & Bawang Jeruk), Char Koay Teow, Asam Laksa, Sup Daging Periuk Besar, Ais Kacang Pelangi (Krim Jagung, Kacang Merah, Buah Nau, Cincau, Sagu Mata Ikan, Susu Sejat, Agar-agar, Sirap Gula Melaka, Sirap Ros,Coconut Milk) & Teh Tarik.
Another major attraction that will be set up and BBQ on the spot outdoor by Vistana this year besides their Char Koay Teow.  Really like how they prepare several types of marinate , each of the different marinate has its own distinctive taste.  Personal favourites goes to their marinated fishes.
Warung Bakar (BBQ Stall)
 2 Jenis Ikan, Ayam, Daging, Kambing, served with Sos Lada Hitam, Sambal Merah & Air Asam.

Seafood lover should not miss their Rebung Gulai Sotong, Daging Rendang and Ayam Goreng Berempah.  Those are the few dishes that us diners enjoyed the most.  Good to go with either type of the rice selections.
Masakan Malay Kawah
Ayam Goreng Berempah, Paru Goreng, Daging Rendang, Rebung Gulai Sotong, Bawal Goreng, Ikan Masak Asam Pedas & Siput Lala Masak Berlada.

Pengat Pisang was boiled to the perfect consistency with mouthful of bananas.  Definitely one of the best dessert available which is also why we had a second bowl despite our bloated tummy but no matter what always remember to have room for desserts.
Not to forget their Bubur Pulut Hitam which was just as palatable.
Needless I say more?  The colours themselves already presented how mouthwatering all these puddings and jellies were.

Ling's 21st Birthday Celebration @ Korean Table All Ban | The Cream & Fudge Factory

Back in May we decided to catch up for lunch  to celebrate Ling's 21st birthday at a newly opened Korean restaurant suggested by *raises hand*.   Korean Table All Ban is housed within the second floor of The Northern All Suite Hotel with a pretty good ambience I would say especially for gatherings.  However, selections are quite limited during the time of our visit and without any ala carte dishes made available yet, we were only able to choose between two sets.
Mei Lin, Ling (limelight of the day), Jia Yi, CeYi, Jocelyn and Jonathan

Priced at either Seok Chan RM29.90 (9 dishes) or Man Chan RM39.90 (12 dishes), all of us went for the more economical set.
We were served with 1. Ho Bak Juk / Pumpkin Porridge which most of them dislike since they prefer to have chinese style porridge instead of this type but I find it pretty decent, 2. Salad with house dressing for a simple and refreshing start, 3. Jeon/ Korean Pancake was quite a disappointment because it was not pan fried till crisp, thus, not much flavours were brought out as it supposed to yet stickiness remained at certain parts, 4. Kimchi Jiggae finally we were served with something that makes an impression with avalanche of flavours.  All of us agreed that this pot of goodness was filled with optimum spiciness, sourness and salty flavours with a generous amount of tofu and vegetables.

5. Got Jeol Li / Fresh Kimchi
Unlike other restaurant, we were told that their kimchi is freshly prepared every day instead of the usual ones which are fermented. Thus, its crunchiness.  If you must know this is refillable.

6. Spicy BBQ Chicken and Sweet Charcoal Pork BBQ
The barbequed chicken and pork were among our favourite dishes.  Taste is more towards the sweeter side despite being labelled as spicy.

7. Jap Cheh /Glass Noodles
Here is another pleasurable dish with julienned vegetables, sweet and savory sauce to go wth the springy glass noodles.

8. Bibimbap (mix vegetable rice)
For those who are afraid of being not full enough no worries, here is a giant portion of tummy-filler to make sure that you will be satisfyingly full.  All of us could barely finish such a monstrous portion but I personally love their in house leafy rice since it is not something that is usually seen at other Korean restaurants.  Some among us find it too sticky though.

Abundant of Banchan to spoil our choice.
Everyone was eating away happily.  Nobody notices my camera at all.
Oh hey!  Finally you noticed me!
Some alcohol to *cheers* with the girl who turned 21 on the day.

Watermelon with some sweet treats

Happy 21st birthday my friend, I wish we can continue counting on our friendship throughout times and may all your wishes come true.
Ling's birthday cake
Signing off with a cup of creamy indulgence.
